IRONDALE – Mayor James D. Stewart Jr. announced during the regular meeting of the Irondale City Council on Tuesday, Nov. 15, that there will be a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway in front of City Hall at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.
“We will be giving away 200 turkeys,” he said. “They’re on a first-come, first-serve basis. So, as soon as those 200 are given away, then that will be it for the turkey giveaway.”
Later that evening, the city council approved Resolution 2022-R-215, authorizing the execution of a service agreement with Irondale Community Foundation, in an amount not to exceed $3,500, to provide services to the city of Irondale for the Thanksgiving turkey giveaway, as well as an upcoming giveaway of Christmas hams.
“Thanksgiving, to me, is my favorite holiday,” Councilor John London said. “Even more important than my birthday. And so, we just want you to be thankful in this thankful season, enjoying your family, enjoying one another, enjoying this city and just enjoying the people that surround you. Two years ago, at this time, I was with my Pop (on) Thanksgiving, and Christmas of the same year, he was not around. I was so glad and happy, and thankful, that I had the opportunity to spend (Thanksgiving) with him. … So, God bless you for this Thanksgiving season and know this – that Councilman London loves you and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
