BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) is investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of an 18-year-old on Thursday, Nov. 24, at approximately 6:50 p.m.
Peeples was pronounced deceased. The second male suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot injury.
BPD officers responded to UAB Hospital to gather information.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victims were traveling in a vehicle near the 400 Block of Orchid Road when they were fired upon by a suspect(s) in a separate vehicle,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated. “Based on the facts gathered during this investigation, this incident does not appear to be random.”
Fitzgerald stated that the motive is still undetermined.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating a fatal shooting 2400 block of 5th Street Northwest in Center Point. At this time, authorities do not believe the two homicides are connected.
