BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) reports shots were fired at Birmingham Police officers during a vehicle pursuit on Wednesday, Dec. 21, around 10:05 p.m.
According to the BPD, West Precinct officers were in pursuit of a vehicle that was taken in an armed carjacking the previous day.
“During the pursuit, a suspect fired multiple shots at our officers from the stolen vehicle,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated. “A Birmingham Police patrol vehicle was struck by gunfire on the front windshield and front right bumper.”
Fitzgerald stated the pursuit ended in the 2700 Block of Court O when multiple suspects bailed from the vehicle. Currently, there are no suspects in custody. However, officers recovered the stolen vehicle, as well as the stolen guns.
No officers were injured; no officers fired shots.
