BIRMINGHAM — One person was injured another person was killed during a shooting in Birmingham on Monday, Jan. 2, at approximately 9:46 p.m.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Jamarquis Darionte Weaver, 27, of Birmingham, sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported assault in the 100 block of 59th Street North in Birmingham.
“A ShotSpotter notification alerted that shots have been fired in the area,” Birmingham Police Department’s Sergeant Monica Law said. “Upon arrival, East Precinct officers observed two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.”
Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene and pronounced Weaver dead. The passenger was transported to UAB hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“At this time, we do not have any suspects in custody,” Law said.
