TRUSSVILLE — UPDATE: The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a tornado watch for much of central Alabama including Jefferson, St. Clair and Blount counties until 4 a.m. on Wednesday.
A tornado watch means atmospheric conditions are conducive for a tornado. The storm system is producing severe thunderstorms, high winds and heavy rains that could lead to flash flooding.
EARLIER: The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a tornado watch for Jefferson County until 5 p.m. This comes on top of a hazardous weather outlook statement that includes St. Clair County which was issued by NWS over the past weekend.
Storms moving across Alabama from west to easy could produce tornadoes, high winds, heavy rains and potential flooding.
The potentially sever weather has already impacted events scheduled for Tuesday evening with the Hewitt-Trussville girls basketball game with Fairview being cancelled.
