The Hewitt Trussville Huskies basketball team got the New Year started on the right foot with a 59-39 win over visiting Fairview on Wednesday night.
Hewitt owned the first quarter, holding Fairview to just 10 points while putting up 19. Reid Stodghill put up 7 of those points to go with 6 from Ray Rolley to lead Hewitt scorers in the first period.
The second saw a similar result as Hewitt would score 18 and hold Fairview to just 8 points, all scored by Cylas Yarbrough. For Hewitt, Lake Williams was the leading scorer with 5 points to go with 4 points each from Emeka Anwah and Stodghill. Hewitt would take a 37-18 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Fairview defense would come to play in the third quarter, holding the Huskies to just 7 points, led by Karnell Smith with 3. Hewitt would yield 13 points in the period, allowing Fairview to close the gap to 44-31.
The final quarter would see Hewitt outscore Fairview 15-8. Stodghill would once again lead all scorers, this time with 6 points to close out the game.
“It was good to get a win to start the new year,” said Hewitt Head Coach Jeremy Monceaux. “It was not our best performance and we need to play better. But the goal of the game is to find a way to win and we did that.”
Stodghill led all scorers with 17 points followed by Rolley with 13.
The Huskies improve to 14-6 heading into area play this Friday night as they invite Chelsea to Bryant Bank Arena.
