BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, Jan 11, at around 5:10 p.m.
According to the BPD, South precinct officers were inside the Adona Apartment Complex on a call for service when shots were fired in a nearby area.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said officers went to the 1800 block of Aspen Run when they located a male armed with a firearm.
Officers also observed Jayvonne David Banks, 28, of Birmingham, lying unresponsive on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
“Officers were able to take the male, who was armed, into custody free of any incident,” Fitzgerald said.
Officers dispatched Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel to the scene, who pronounced Banks dead.
“The preliminary investigation has revealed that an argument took place between multiple individuals,” Fitzgerald said. “At this time, we believe that the person we have in custody is a family member of one of the parties involved in the argument. We believe that the victim shares a close relationship with one of the parties involved in his argument.”
Authorities ask anyone with information regarding the case to call BPD at 205-254-1764, or if you wish to remain anonymous, dial Crimestoppers at 205-254-7777.
