BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Police Department announced that it is conducting a homicide investigation relating to an incident that occurred on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023.
The victim has been identified as Robert Dewayne White, (43), of Fairfield, Alabama.
North Precinct officers were dispatched at around 9:30 p.m., to the 3400 Block of 31st Avenue North, on report of a person shot. When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the victim lying in the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was hanging out with a group of friends when an unknown suspect(s) began firing upon the group; the gunfire struck the victim. Currently, there is no one in custody.
It is unknown if the victim was targeted or caught in the crossfire.
