BESSEMER – A 61-year-old inmate at the William Donaldson Correctional Facility was found dead by his inmate on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 8:42 p.m.
While the decedent has been positively identified, his identity will not be released until his family has been notified of the death.
“The decedent was an inmate at William Donaldson Correctional Facility serving a life sentence for murder from a 1989 conviction out of Etowah County,” Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said.
An autopsy was performed on Jan. 30, 2023, to assist with determining cause and manner of death. That information has not been released at this time.
The Alabama Department of Correction – Law Enforcement Services Division is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
