BESSEMER – A 69-year-old white male serving a life sentence at the William Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer was found unresponsive in his dormitory Saturday and pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m., the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office stated.
“The decedent was an inmate at William Donaldson Correctional Facility serving a life sentence for sodomy 1st degree from a 1989 conviction out of Calhoun County,” Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said. “The decedent was found unresponsive on his bed in an open style dormitory. The decedent was currently being treated for multiple medical ailments and the death is believed to be of natural causes. An examination performed on 3/5/2023 found no evidence of trauma or foul play associated with the death, with the cause of death pending additional laboratory studies.”
The Alabama Department of Correction – Law Enforcement Services Division is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
