TRUSSVILLE — A Sunday afternoon fire at CrossFit Trussville brought out all three Trussville Fire and Rescue stations and briefly closed traffic on Railroad Avenue and Railroad Street. Fortunate timing and an overwhelming response by firefighters quickly brought the structure fire under control.
“I’m proud of the job our guys did,” Chief Tim Shotts said.
The original 911 call came in at 1:14 p.m. for 145 Railroad Ave., CrossFit Trussville and the first units arrived at 1:16 p.m.
Those units found heavy smoke and fire coming from the building, but were able to bring the blaze under control withing 20 minutes, Shotts said.
According to Shotts, the timing of the 911 call allowed personnel to move quickly.
“We had units returning from an earlier run when the CrossFit call came,” Shotts said. “They were able to jump right on it, then the other stations responded to help.”
Shotts said the business appeared to be closed. While he could not yet say definitively, he didn’t believe the building was occupied at the time of the fire. The chief later confirmed there were no injuries.
The fire appeared to have been burning in the interior of the building for quite a while before calls came in.
“To have been such an involved fire, most of the damage was confined to the workout area,” Shotts said.
The Fire Marshal was in route to the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze, which is standard procedure.
“We’ll keep personnel on the scene watching for hot spots,” Shotts said.
