BIRMINGHAM – A deceased Birmingham man found inside of a burning home later discovered to have been shot and killed.
Just before 7 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of Old Lewisburg Road on report of a house fire.
Officers arrived on the scene along with Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel; officers observed a house engulfed in flames. BFR personnel extinguished the flames and discovered a victim lying unresponsive in the house, whom they later pronounced dead. As of now, the identification of the victim has not been identified.
After the victim was taken to the Jefferson County Coroner’s office, it was determined that they had suffered from gunshot wounds. The case has officially been ruled a homicide.
A BFR fire investigator has not discovered the cause of the fire at this time.
