BIRMINGHAM – One Birmingham man is dead, another injured after an argument ends with both parties shooting at one another early Friday morning, June 9.
At around 11:45 p.m., Birmingham police department (BPD) officers were dispatched to an apartment building at the 1600 block of 18th Place North. When they arrived, they found the victim, Demetrius Duante Harris, 42, unresponsive suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported him to UAB.
While they were on the original call, officers received another report of a person shot at a gas station in the 5100 block of Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North. It was determined the victim had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to UAB for treatment.
Just before 1 a.m., Harris was pronounced dead.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said investigators believe both men knew each other and got into an argument and exchanged shots with one another.
The death is being investigated as a homicide.
