BIRMINGHAM — Two on duty firefighters were shot and injured inside their fire station in Norwood early Wednesday morning.
Birmingham police department officers arrived on scene at around 8:30 a.m. and found that two on-duty fire fighters had been shot inside Birmingham Fire Station 9 located at 1228 27th St. North. Police believe this to be a targeted attack but do not yet have a motive.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported the injured firefighters to a local hospital. Officer Truman Fitzgerald described their injuries as serious.
No one is currently in custody and details are limited.
BPD has deployed a large amount of resources to investigate, including a SWAT team. BPD is currently searching for witnesses and video of the incident.
