PINSON – The Pinson Valley Arts Council is celebrating its one-year anniversary Friday and wants to invite the public to come out and celebrate with them.
The non-profit organization will be kicking off its anniversary celebration by hosting Pinson Valley High School theater students for an educational after-school program at 4 p.m.
“They’re coming to talk theater, movie, drama, art,” PVAC founder DieDra Ruff said. “We’re going to have all of our equipment down there and we’re going to try to have some of the producers down there that can answer questions.”
The students will be shown the trailer for “Frienemy for Life,” a movie set and filmed in Pinson by DieDra and Keithen Ruff’s film company, KeiDie Ruff Films.
“A couple of cast members are going to be there to answer any questions they might have about acting and theater,” Ruff said. “Then Keith will have a couple of producers there with their cameras for any of the students that want to know what it’s like to actually film.”
At 5 p.m., the community is invited to come out for First Friday: Musician’s Night, a block party style event that takes place on the historic Pinson Main Street.
“I had already planned the Musician’s Night before I realized it was also our anniversary,” Ruff said. “The musicians will probably start coming and setting up their equipment while the (PVHS) kids are there. It’s just an open mic. It’s pretty much anybody that can sing, that’s got an instrument and wants to come and play. We’ll all just put out music together and see what we come up with, and just have fun for a couple of hours.”
First Friday: Musician’s Night will last from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring out a lawn chair, patron local restaurants and businesses, and enjoy the entertainment.
“Everybody please come and help us celebrate our one-year anniversary,” Ruff said.
