TRUSSVILLE — In partnership with UAB Arts in Medicine, New Awakening Recovery Services Inc. hosted its annual Beauty for Ashes Recovery conference at the Trussville Civic Center in September.
This event acknowledged the achievements of people in long-term recovery, inspired attendees to become strong advocates for recovery, and provided community resources for those in need.
The conference included individuals from diverse backgrounds, including people in recovery, participants in drug court programs, and dedicated service providers.
Throughout the event, attendees laughed, danced, received community resources, were fed, won gifts, and heard empowering stories of resilience, recovery, and reintegration.
Judge Maria Fortune, New Awakening’s Drug Court Liaison, delivered an speech to the audience recognizing the triumphs in recovery. She also encouraged attendees experiencing challenges to not lose hope and to tap into the numerous community resources available.
“This occasion holds great significance for us at New Awakening,” said Martina Dailey, the organization’s founder. “We are so honored to create a meaningful recovery experience for the community. We deeply appreciate the volunteers, sponsors, UAB Arts in Medicine, speakers, community partners, organizations, and all who played a pivotal role in making this conference a success.”
Dailey also expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support of the Trussville and Birmingham communities, noting that the event is growing larger each year. She emphasized that while the conference was held during Recovery Month, we should celebrate and recognize recovery whenever possible.
“We’re honored to join with a collective of global organizations in celebrating Recovery Month.” Dailey stated. “However, we understand that there are individuals in our community who continue to face the challenges of addiction and other traumas. We urge them to reach out to us at (205) 977-0267. Our diverse team is here to provide the services they need.”
