HUNTSVILLE – The Shades Valley volleyball team punched their ticket to the AHSAA 6A Elite 8 late Wednesday night.
Coach Kimberly Cook’s Lady Mounties defeated Mortimer Jordan 3-0 earlier in the day.
The victory was Shades Valley’s first Super Region win since 2020.
Shades Valley then defeated #7 ranked Hazel Green 3-2 in a five-set thriller.
Valley took the first, third and decisive fifth set.
With the match tied 2-2, the Lady Mounties rallied back from an 11-14 deficit in the final set to take the match.
“The girls rallied behind senior Simone McCray and junior Jasmine Terry,” Cook said.
Shades Valley will make their first appearance in the Elite 8 in 22 years.
Shades Valley faces 10th ranked Fort Payne at 2 PM Thursday.
The Lady Mounties are the only Trussville Tribune area team still alive in the tournament.
In 6A, Pinson was eliminated by Mountain Brook 3-0.
In 5A, Moody was eliminated by Brewer 3-0, and Springville was eliminated by Lawrence County 3-1.
