TRUSSVILLE – The Trussville City Council honored the Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club in recognition of World Polio Day.
In 1985, Rotary launched PolioPlus, and in 1988 helped establish the Global Polio Eradication Initiative with other world organizations to immunize the children of the world against polio.
Many of the Club’s members were on-hand for the announcement of the proclamation on Tuesday, October 24.
The eradication of polio is one of Rotary International’s longest standing and most significant efforts. Along with their partners, Rotary has helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children against polio in 122 countries. They have reduced polio cases by 99.9% worldwide. World Polio Day is a time for Rotary members, public health advocates, and all who want a world free from polio to come together, recognize the progress in the fight to end polio, and talk about actions needed in order to end polio for good.
