Muscle Shoals – The Pinson Valley Indians (4-6) ran into a buzz saw Friday night.
The Muscle Shoals Trojans (10-0) defeated the Indians 42-7 in the first round of the AHSAA playoffs.
Jamir Goodloe had a big night and scored on a 40-yard reception, a 30-yard reception, and an 80-yard run
The Region 7 champions built a 28-7 lead in the first quarter.
Natarreun Hampton started the scoring with a nine-yard run with 9:27 remaining.
Muscle Shoals then blocked a Pinson punt at the 7:43 mark.
Hampton got into the endzone again on a 36-yard run with 7:02 in the first.
The Trojans pushed the lead to 21-0 on a Cole Woods 40-yard strike to Goodloe with 4:13.
The Muscle Shoals defense continued to dominate the Indian offense and forced a punt.
Goodloe and Woods hooked up again on a 30-yard pass for a score to make it 28-0 with 2:01 remaining in the opening stanza.
Pinson’s Josh Woods scored on a 15-yard run with two seconds remaining in the quarter.
Jaquess Greene then made the score 35-0 with 59 yard touchdown run with 11:20 in the half.
The Trojans’ Xavier Johson intercepted the Indian’s pass and returned to the Pinson 22-yard line.
Muscle Shoals handed the ball back to Pinson on a fumble at the 15-yard line with 8:12 in the half.
Pinson moved the ball to the Trojam 35 hard line but turned the ball over on downs with 4:55 in the second.
The Indians forced a turnover on downs and took over with 1:55 in the second.
Muscle Shoals’ Taven Scott ended the Indian drive with an interception with 1:33 remaining.
The Trojans held a 35-7 lead at the half.
The Pinson defense came up with two turnovers, an interception and a fumble recovery, to hold Muscle Shoals scoreless in the third quarter.
The Indians drove into scoring position with 11:03 remaining in the game, but missed a field goal.
On the next Trojan drive, Goodloe went 80 yards to make the score 42-7 with 10:46 to go.
Neither team was able to put points on the board and the Trojans advanced to the second round.
Dylan Reese was 19 of 29 for 187 yards with three interceptions.
Rico Freeman had 10 catches for 121 yards.
Woods had 25 carries for 175 yards and one score.
Muscle Shoals rushed for 352 yards.
The Trojans face Fort Payne (7-4) next week.
