MOUNTAIN BROOK — Police in Mountain Brook said a person wanted on felony charges crashed into the Bromberg’s jewelry store early Saturday morning while fleeing officers.
MBPD Chief Jaye Loggins said in a statement that on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at approximately 2:35 a.m., a Mountain Brook Police Officer was conducting routine patrols when he observed a suspicious vehicle and person in the 3600 Block of Montevallo Road.
“The driver of the vehicle immediately fled upon seeing the officer, driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed,” Loggins said. “The officer activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and continued westbound on Montevallo Road at a high rate of speed.”
As the vehicle approached Mountain Brook Village, the driver lost control while crossing Cahaba Road and wrecked into the storefront of Bromberg’s, according to police.
Loggins said the driver of the vehicle fled into the store, and after approximately 25 minutes, officers took the driver into custody without incident or injuries. Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen, and the driver had two felony warrants for his arrest.
An update will be provided when formal charges have been filed.
