JEFFERSON COUNTY — Just before 8 p.m. Monday, deputies were dispatched on a call of shots fired in the 200 block of Chickasaw Drive near Forestdale, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Joni Money.
When deputies arrived they located a vehicle crashed into several other parked vehicles at the location.
“Inside the vehicle were a 19-year-old male and a 13-year-old male,” Money said. “Both were deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. A third victim, also a teenager, was reported to have been inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting.”
Money said he was able to escape unharmed and fled to a nearby residence to seek help.
According to Jefferson County Deputy Chief Coroner Bill Yates, the victims have been identified as Louis Craig IV, 19, of Birmingham and Johnathan Keith Cottingham, 13, 0f Forestdale.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s detectives are conducting the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
There are currently no suspects in custody. Money said it appears that the victims were targeted in these shootings.
