Wednesday 8:05 a.m. UPDATE
Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency provided an update on road conditions in Jefferson, Shelby and St. Clair counties. Additionally, multiple local police and sheriff’s offices are providing road condition information.
Jefferson
Black ice reported on Interstate 459 south of Acton to include Old Rocky Ridge Road Bridge.
Shelby
Small ice patches under various overpasses.
St. Clair
Ice on U.S. 231 from Interstate 59 to the Blount County line.

Irondale Police
Amber Hills Road @ Blackjack Ridge is still closed due to icy conditions. There are also ice patches in the area of Karl Daly Road and Ratliff Road. If you must be out driving please use caution especially when approaching bridges and overpasses.
Tuesday 9:55 a.m. UPDATE – Senior Trooper of ALEA provided the following update:
Jefferson County
Reports of icy bridges, ALDOT notified- Westbound lanes Interstate 20 near the 136 mile marker. . Icy/rain mixture is reported. Multiple crashes have been reported at this time.
Shelby County
Southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near the 239 mile marker is closed due to multiple crashes from ice on the roadway. Traffic is going to be diverted at the 239 mile marker.
St. Clair
I-20 WB 164 MM open currently. Reports of minor crashes on I-59 with no injury reported.
Tuesday 9:34 a.m. UPDATE From ALEA Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey:
BLOUNT COUNTY— Multi-disabled vehicles that occurred at approximately 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, has caused road blockage. The northbound lanes of Interstate 65 near the 285 mile marker, in Blount County are currently closed and will be for an undetermined amount of time. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
BLOUNT COUNTY—A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, has caused road blockage. The northbound lanes of Interstate 65 near the 291 mile marker are currently closed and will be for an undetermined amount of time. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
Tuesday 9:22 a.m. UPDATE – I-20 westbound closed in Jefferson County – Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey of ALEA said, “A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, has cause road blockage.
The westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near the 136 mile marker, in Jefferson County is currently closed and will be for an undetermined amount of time. Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
Tuesday 8:51 a.m.UPDATE – Trussville police stated “Please be extremely careful today if you have to leave the house. Drive slow and watch for possible icy spots! We will continue to monitor road conditions throughout the day.”
Tuesday 8:21 a.m. UPDATE – Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reorted:
St. Clair/ Jefferson County- Interstate 20 westbound from the 144 mile marker to the 133 mile marker has multiple overpasses that are froze.
Tuesday 8:08 a.m. UPDATE – St. Clair County EMA reported on road conditions and stated there could be many hazardous roads that have not been reported. Travel with caution.
Tuesday 8:05 a.m. UPDATE – Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports icy conditions do exist on multiple roadways. Bridges and Overpasses are the most susceptible to ice.
Tuesday 7:30 a.m. UPDATE – Argo police report, from city limits to city limits on Highway 11 have been sanded. HWY 11 South past Liles lane is more iced than the northbound side. All bridges have a layer of ice but have been sanded.
Argo Margaret is sanded and is passable with minimal ice impact. (Sanded limits to HWY.11) Please keep in mind that not all surfaces have froze completely and the high today is not above freezing.
Check with St. Clair EMA, ALGO, or St.Clair Communications for more road updates as they are received.
Please do not travel if it is not a necessary trip. If you do please adjust your speed for the weather conditions and drive slower than normal and allow your self more time for travel.
Tuesday 7:15 a.m. UPDATE – Irondale police report, “Many of our roads are iced over. All Bridges & Overpasses are iced over. Back roads and subdivision roads are very slick. Avoid unnecessary driving.”
Tuesday 1 a.m. UPDATE – Due to road conditions, The Alabama Department of Transportation is recommending motorists driving on the interstate thru Birmingham to use the right lane if possible until further notice.
Motorists should check driving conditions at ALGOtraffic.com or use the ALGO traffic app for up-to-date information before departing. Drivers are also encouraged to check with their county or municipality for conditions on county and local roadways. Appropriate driving speeds are determined by the road conditions, which on wet or icy roads should be slower than the posted speed limit. Motorists should slow down and move over, if possible, when approaching highway maintenance personnel and emergency vehicles.
ALDOT maintains state, U.S. and interstate highways. ALDOT’s crews prioritize interstate routes and then other routes by traffic volume. Check with local government agencies for conditions on city or county roads.

TUESDAY 5 a.m. UPDATE St. Clair County
ST. CLAIR COUNTY — A multi-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 3:47 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, has caused a road closure, according to Sergeant Jeremy J. Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
“The crashes occurred in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near the 164 mile marker in St. Clair County,” Burkett said. “Both the westbound and eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 near the 165 mile marker are closed and traffic is being diverted to Stemley Road in Talladega County.”
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are currently on scene investigating with several other law enforcement agencies who are assisting with traffic control and diversion.
Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution when traveling as temperatures continue to decrease which will cause roadways and bridges to freeze and become iced over. ALEA Troopers will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
TUESDAY 5:45 a.m. UPDATE Shelby County
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies have reported icy spots on roadways throughout Shelby County including the expected bridges and overpasses.
The impacted areas and roads are too many to list; however, US Hwy 280 in the area of Double Oak Mountain, specifically, is experiencing icy conditions.
