ST. CLAIR COUNTY — Updated 7:56 a.m. — Burkett said to be advised that all westbound traffic needs to exit off Interstate 20 at Stemley Road, an ALEA Trooper is currently stationed at the exit diverting all traffic. Additional crashes have occurred in the westbound lane which will extended the duration of the closure.
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is currently on scene treating the roadway for iced over conditions.
Again, motorists are urged to use extreme caution when traveling in this area.
Updated 6:30 a.m. – Burkett said the eastbound lanes are back open; however, additional crashes have occurred in the westbound lanes which will extend the duration of the lane closure in the westbound lanes.
Reported at 5 a.m.- multi-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 3:47 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, has caused a road closure, according to Sergeant Jeremy J. Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency
“The crashes occurred in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near the 164 mile marker in St. Clair County,” Burkett said. “Both the westbound and eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 near the 165 mile marker are closed and traffic is being diverted to Stemley Road in Talladega County.”
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are currently on scene investigating with several other law enforcement agencies who are assisting with traffic control and diversion.
Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution when traveling as temperatures continue to decrease which will cause roadways and bridges to freeze and become iced over. ALEA Troopers will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
