JACKSON COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, has claimed the life of a Flat Rock woman, according to Corporal Reginal M. King of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
“Lila F. Lay, 77, was critically injured when the 1998 Ford Ranger pickup she was driving struck the rear of the 2007 Ford Expedition,” King said.
The Expedition was driven by a 33-year-old Flat Rock man.
“Lay was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash,” King said. “Lay was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., for medical treatment. On Saturday, Feb. 17, Lay succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.”
The crash occurred on Alabama 71 near the 23 mile marker, approximately one mile north of Flat Rock, in Jackson County.
No further information is available as Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
