BIRMINGHAM — According to the Birmingham Police Department, Crime Stoppers is now offering a $20,000 reward, $5,000 for each victim, as part of the investigation into last Friday’s quadruple homicide.
The 911 came in around 2:45 p.m. from Shot Spotter alerting officers to several rounds of gunfire, according to Officer Truman Fitzgerald. Officers arrived to find four adult male gunshot victims in an open area near the 900 block of Center Street. Three were pronounced dead at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel.
Those victims were identified as Cortez Ray, 32; Talton Tate, 36; Terrell Edwards, 38, all of Birmingham.
A fourth person, Kevin McGhee, 38, of Birmingham, was wounded and transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. McGhee was taken to surgery, but did not survive.
“We believe the victims were at a neighborhood carwash when an unknown suspect or suspects opened fire on them,” Fitzgerald said. “We believe one or more of the victims were targeted in the shooting.”
BPD Chief Scott Thurman later said police could use any assistance the public can provide. He said this is not a random act, but police don’t have a suspect.
