TRUSSVILLE — One man was shot to death early Sunday morning after what Birmingham Police said was a party at an Airbnb. The homicide is currently under investigation, according to Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
“We believe this residence is a short term rental through Airbnb,” Fitzgerald said. “There was a party or gathering being held at the Airbnb. Detectives will determine what events led to the victim being shot and if the suspect was within the party or outside.”
Police have identified the shooting victim as Phong Nguyen, 21, of Birmingham.
Fitzgerald said police responded to a person shot call in the 900 block of Dugan Avenue at about 2:35 a.m. on Sunday. When officers arrived, they found Nguyen inside the residence. He had been shot and was non-responsive.
Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
Fitzgerald said there is no one in custody for the shooting and police need information from the community. Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to call Crimestoppers anonymously at 205-254-7777.
