TRUSSVILLE–The Trussville Police Department is warning of a phone call scam targeting community members claiming they have an outstanding warrant and need to send the caller a money order to get it cleared.
According to TPD Chief Eric Rush, the police department has received multiple reports of the scam calls today, and in some cases the scammer has even posed as the police chief.
“Nobody from anywhere, any department is ever going to call you and tell you that you have a warrant and you can pay it with a money order. That’s just not protocol at all,” Rush said.
Rush said these calls have been happening in recent years and have affected multiple police departments.
“Be very, very suspicious of anybody that is calling and asking anything like that. You can always hang up and call the police department and verify,” Rush added.
TPD is currently working to track the phone number to find out who is behind the scam calls.
If you receive one of these calls, you can report it to the police department at 205-655-2101.
