LEEDS – The Leeds baseball team found themselves sitting at 12-11 after spring break leading to games against Southside Monday and a doubleheader against Carver on Tuesday, all of which the Greenwave came out on top.
Against Southside, the Greenies jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. The Panthers came back in the third with two runs, followed by another to tie it up in the fifth inning. Leeds would put two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning as Nolan Moore smashed a double to left field that brought Taylon Gaiter and Jacob Calvin home for the winning runs. Southside would be unable to score in the seventh, giving Leeds the 5-3 victory. Joseph Bryant got the win, pitching the final three innings and allowing four hits and one run. Moore went one of three from the plate, but the one hit was the one that sealed the win for Leeds. Calvin had two hits in three trips to the plate.
On Tuesday, the Greenwave would welcome Carver to Leeds and proceed to whip them in both games as the bats got hot early and stayed that way for the duration of the evening.
In game one, Leeds won 19-0 in four and a half innings. Leeds scored six in the first, nine in the second and four in the fourth while holding the Rams scoreless. Dax Phillips had a great outing, going four innings and allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out nine batters. Ty Bedell relieved Phillips and struck out all three batters he faced. Will Ford went three for three at the plate, driving in three runs. Phillips was not only brilliant on the mound, but he also went two of three at the plate and drove in four runs of his own.
Game two was almost like déjà vu for the Rams as Leeds beat them 18-0. The scoring was almost identical to game one as the Greenies put up six in the first, nine in the second and three in the third. Nolan Moore got the win but shared the mound with Grayson Ford, Will Ford and Jacob Calvin, combining for a no-hitter and striking out ten batters all together. Will Ford drove in three runs while Moore and Brooks Ford both had two each.
Leeds looks to keep the momentum going as they take on Northridge Friday before heading to Lincoln on Saturday.
