SHELBY COUNTY — Downed power lines have shut down U.S. Highway 280 and drivers are cautioned that the length of time for the closure is unknown, according to Senior Trooper Cody Farrar of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
“Downed power lines that occurred at approximately 7:19 a.m. Sunday, April 21, has caused roadway blockage,” Farrar said. “All lanes of U.S. 280 near the 13 mile marker, in Shelby County are currently blocked and will be for an undetermined amount of time.”
At noon on Sunday, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported in an update that the closure could last another seven to nine hours.
The Sheriff’s Office said all lanes of Hwy. 280 between Dunnavant Valley Road (County Road 41) and Essex Drive are closed due to power lines on the road.
“Traffic is being diverted to Old Hwy. 280,” officials said. “Alabama Power estimates the repair could take another 7-9 hours. Expect delays and find an alternate route if possible.”
Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
