TRUSSVILLE, Ala.–The Trussville Police Department is partnering with Simplified Behavioral Health, LLC this week to receive training on how first responders can better serve people with autism, according to TPD Lt. Clint Riner.
Officers will be educated on topics such as understanding the diagnosis, communication strategies, compassion, de-escalation, and trauma trauma-assumed care.
“This training will help officers identify the diverse range of characteristics and behaviors that come with these diagnoses and allow the officer a better opportunity to have a safer and more effective interaction with those in need,” Riner wrote.
