SHELBY COUNTY — According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 in Shelby County will be closed on Wednesday to conduct an accident investigation.
A statement from ALDOT said, weather permitting, beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7 , the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will conduct an investigation and temporarily close all 4 lanes of I-65 as follows:
- Beginning at 11:00 a.m. all 4 lanes of I-65 southbound will be closed between Exit 242 (Pelham) and Exit 238 (Alabaster).
- The travelling public on I-65 southbound will need to exit the interstate at Exit 242 (Pelham) and follow County Road 52 westbound until reaching US-31 SB. Motorists will need to follow US-31 southbound until reaching the southbound entrance ramp at Exit 238 (Alabaster) where they can continue traveling on I-65 southbound.
Motorists can expect delays during these operations. Motorists are also requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Maintenance Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
