MORGAN COUNTY — A multi-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, has claimed the life of an Albertville man, according to Senior Trooper Cody Farrar of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
“Juan D. Santos-Gonzalez, 30, was fatally injured when the 2006 Chevrolet Express, he was a passenger in, collided head-on with the 2001 Dodge Ram driven by a 17-year-old, of Arab,” Farrar said. “The Chevrolet, driven by Jesus D. Garcia, 45, of Albertville, and the Dodge, were then struck by the 2013 Ford F-250 driven by Charles J. Shumate, 49, of Joppa. Santos-Gonzalez was pronounced deceased at the scene. Prior to colliding with the Chevrolet, the Dodge struck the 2011 Lexus RX350, driven by Meadow A. McDonald, 19, of Joppa.”
In addition to the fatality, three people were transported to hospitals for medical attention.
“Garcia and passengers of the Chevrolet, Ramiro Lopez, 31, of Albertville, and Rodrigo Martinez, 34, of Albertville, were not using seat belts and were transported to Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville for medical treatment,” Farrar said. “The 17-year-old driver of the Dodge was transported to a local area hospital.”
The crash occurred on Alabama 67 near Entrekin Road, approximately 10 miles south of Somerville, in Morgan County.
No further information is available as troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
