BIRMINGHAM — One person is dead and two people were wounded, including the suspect, in an overnight shooting, according to Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald said BPD received a call for two people shot in the Collegeville housing community just before midnight on Saturday. The shooting occurred in the 3000 block of 30th Avenue North.
Officers arrived and found an adult female and adult male inside an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced the adult male victim dead at the scene.
He has been identified as 35-year-old Brandon Lee of Birmingham.
The adult female was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“We believe the adult male victim was involved in a verbal argument with a separate adult male,” Fitzgerald said. “The adult male suspect fired shots towards the apartment and struck the adult female victim and the adult male victim. We believe at least one of the victims returned fire.”
Police were notified of a potential suspect at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday when an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds arrived at UAB Hospital. BPD officers arrived at the hospital and detained the man.
“He will remain in police custody while hospitalized,” Fitzgerald said.
