CULLMAN COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, has claimed the life of a Vinemont woman, according to Senior Trooper Vu Quang of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
“Mirra Bride Dot Popee Chafin, 21, was fatally injured when the 2007 Ford Mustang she was driving left the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned,” Quang said. “Chafin and a passenger in the Ford, Lara A. Phillips, 23, of Cullman, were not using seat belts at the time of the crash and both were ejected.”
Chafin was pronounced deceased at the scene. Phillips was injured and airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment, according to Quang.
“After the initial crash, the unoccupied Ford Mustang entered oncoming traffic and was struck by the 2014 Toyota Sienna driven by Suzanne E. Woods, 56, of Hayden. Woods was injured and transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment,” Quang said.
The crash occurred on Interstate 65 near the 293 mile marker, approximately seven miles south of Dodge City, in Cullman County.
No further information is available as troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
