SELMA, Ala.–An Alabama high school football player has died after suffering from a serious head injury during a game, according to multiple reports.
16-year-old Caden Tellier, who played quarterback at the John T. Morgan Academy in Selma, experienced a traumatic brain injury during the opening game of the season Friday night against Southern Academy.
Tellier was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, and his death was announced on Saturday.
“Caden loved the Lord with all his heart and was a shining light every day he graced the halls of Morgan Academy,” Morgan Academy Headmaster Dr. Bryan Oliver wrote.
“He was a student, a friend, an athlete and most important a Christ follower.”
Morgan Academy suspended all school activities this week in response to Tellier’s death.
A GoFundMe has been organized in Terrier’s memory to help cover medical and funeral expenses, which has raised over $95,000 as of Monday evening.
