ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala.–Two people died in a single-vehicle crash last Saturday, Sept. 7, along Interstate 59, according to a statement from ALEA Senior Trooper Cody Farrar released today.
At approximately 12:25 p.m., a 2023 GMC Box Truck driven by 64-year-old James Dayries of Baker, La. left the roadway sand struck a tree.
Dayries and 72-year-old Mairi Scott of Knoxville, Tenn., who was a passenger in the GMC, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash occurred on I-59 near the 195 mile marker, approximately 12 miles north of Attalla.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
