TRUSSVILLE, Ala.–The man who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 59 in Trussville Tuesday morning has been identified.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the man as 80-year-old Joseph Allen Phillips of Rainbow City.
According to the coroner’s office, he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash.
The wreck occurred at approximately 8:23 a.m. near the Chalkville Road overpass and shut down northbound and southbound lanes of I-59 for a few hours.
According to TPD Lt. Clint Riner, three vehicles were involved in the crash and three people were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The Trussville Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the wreck.
