BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-The Clay-Chalkville Cougars remain undefeated this season after a 66-12 win over the Huffman Vikings.
The Cougars scored points right out of the gate, with barely two minutes gone on the game clock.
Cougar linebacker Isaiah Brown got the night’s first touchdown on a scoop-and-score after a Viking fumble. The PAT from Joseph Del-Toro gave the Cougars an early 7-0 lead.
Cougar quarterback Aaron Frye found Jacari Johnson for a 45-yard floater to add six more for the Cougars in the first quarter.
Joshua Woods opened the second quarter with an 8-yard run, extending the Cougar lead to 21-0.
Huffman quarterback Justin Nelson ran for a 40-yard touchdown, narrowing the Cougar lead to 15 points at the 9:00 mark.
Aaron Osley reignited the Cougar offense with less than a minute remaining in the first half, breaking free for a 22-yard run that brought them back into Viking territory. Osley capped off the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run, extending the Cougars’ lead to 28-6.
Osley started the third quarter with a quick touchdown run, extending the Cougar’s lead to 35-6.
Running back Joshua Woods found his time to shine at the 4:52 mark in the third, adding on six more for the Cougars.
Marlon Compton added to the lead with a 58-yard punt return with two minutes remaining in the third. The Cougars continued adding to their lead in the fourth, with Huffman answering once more. The Cougars would end the night with a 66-12 final.
“We’re going to have to play better, we’re going to have to execute better, I don’t know if we’re executing as good as we should offensively at times,” said the Cougars’ Stuart Floyd.
The Cougars will travel to Oxford next Friday for a crucial game that will determine the region championship.
