BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–A 17-year-old male is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot Tuesday night, according to the Birmingham Police Department.
At around 9:50 p.m. on Nov. 12, police responded to a report of a person shot near Woodlawn High School in the 5600 block of 1st Avenue North.
Officers arrived on the scene and found the victim in the passenger seat of a vehicle unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The victim has not been identified at this time.
Police believe the victim was involved in a verbal altercation while leaving a basketball game at 54th Street and 2nd Avenue North.
When the victim and a friend attempted to leave the location, an unknown suspect fired multiple shots into their vehicle, striking the victim on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The driver then drove to nearby Woodlawn High School for help.
The suspect left the scene in an unknown vehicle.
There is no one in custody.
