Jean Cox, Director of Friends of Pinchgut Creek
The trees on the Cahaba River Tree Trail, in Trussville’s parks and rec complex, are really showing out this month.
The trail is lined with towering Hickories, Oaks, Poplars, and Beech trees. Falling temperatures and the colors of autumn make this month the ideal time to get out and enjoy the trail.
Friends of Pinchgut Creek will be hosting a free poetry workshop and guided hike on the educational tree trail this Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2p.m. Fall leaves and the beauty of the river will be inspiration for attendees.
Tina Mozelle Braziel and James Braziel, poets and published authors of many books including the newly released Glass Cabin, will be leading the poetry workshop.
Poets and aspiring poets will learn from them, have time for writing independently in the beautiful, wooded area next to the river, and then they will gather to share their poetry if they wish.
Henry Hughes will be leading the guided hike. Henry is a former Director of Education at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Executive Director of Friends of Shades Creek, and an emeritus board member of the Cahaba River Society. Henry has a wealth of river and tree knowledge and is always entertaining.
The sign-up station for the poetry event will be near the trailhead at 4630 Riverbend Rd. For more information, please email pinchgutcreek@outlook.com.
