BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–A 17-year-old who was shot Tuesday night while leaving a basketball game has died, according to the Birmingham Police Department.
The victim has been identified as Gerald Andre Lomax, Jr.
At around 9:50 p.m. on Nov. 12, police responded to a report of a person shot near Woodlawn High School in the 5600 block of 1st Avenue North.
Officers arrived on the scene and found the victim in the passenger seat of a vehicle unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to UAB Hospital and succumbed to his injuries Wednesday afternoon.
Police believe the victim was involved in a verbal altercation while leaving a basketball game at 54th Street and 2nd Avenue North.
When the victim and a friend attempted to leave the location, an unknown suspect fired multiple shots into their vehicle, striking the victim on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The driver then drove to nearby Woodlawn High School for help.
The suspect left the scene in an unknown vehicle.
There is no one in custody.
