LEEDS, Ala.–An Adamsville teen was arrested in Leeds last week after leading police on an extensive manhunt, according to the Leeds Police Department.
On Nov. 20 at 1:30 p.m., officers with Leeds PD responded to a burglary-in-progress in the 1400 block of Rosa Parks Circle.
When officers arrived at the residence, they encountered the suspect, 19-year-old Justis Heath McGuire, being held in place by the victim.
Police attempted to detain McGuire, who allegedly ripped off taser prongs and assaulted officers before running into a wooded area.
A manhunt was launched with assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Irondale Police Department, and officers tracked the suspect through the woods near Memorial Park and the water treatment facility.
Police released a description of the suspect via Facebook and at approximately 5:30 p.m., received a call about a suspicious person fitting his description in the 1300 block of Montevallo Road SW in Leeds.
When officers arrived, McGuire reportedly attempted to flee toward Rowan Springs Road, jumping tall privacy fences and destroying property through the neighborhood.
Officers gave chase and captured the suspect in the 1300 block of Rowan Springs Road.
During the investigation, McGuire allegedly attempted to use another person’s identity to conceal his own, though detectives later positively identified him.
McGuire has been charged with second-degree assault, third-degree burglary, fourth-degree forgery, second-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree criminal mischief, attempting to elude, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice.
McGuire also had outstanding warrants for his arrest charging him with second-degree rape, second-degree theft of property, and attempting to elude.
He was booked in the Jefferson County Jail and has a total bond amount of $153,300.
