IRONDALE, Ala.–The Polar Express will be making a stop in Irondale next Friday, Dec. 6, for the city’s Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting.
“With Irondale’s deep roots as a train city, we’re excited to bring the magic of the Polar Express to our community,” said Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr. “We are looking forward to kicking off the holiday season with a grand celebration for all to enjoy.”
Over 40 groups have already entered the parade including the Shades Valley High School Marching Band, every city department, local churches, businesses, and community groups.
The parade will start rolling from Irondale Community School at 6 p.m., going down 16th Street South before turning left onto Highway 78.
The procession will turn left again to go up 20th Street South, eventually ending at Irondale City Hall.
There, the festivities will continue with the city offering free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the red caboose as well as free hot chocolate and cookies.
After singing some Christmas carols outside city hall, Mayor Stewart will flip the switch at 7:30 p.m. to light Irondale’s 20-foot Fraser fir tree.
Throughout the month of December, Irondale’s new Storybook Walk, located across from the Irondale Community School, will also feature “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg for the community to enjoy.
