BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala.–An Oneonta man died Wednesday morning after the car he was driving struck a semi-truck and crashed along U.S. 231, according to ALEA Senior Trooper Vu Quang.
At approximately 7:32 a.m., Bobby M. Shirley was driving his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 when it struck a 2020 Mack semi-truck driven by Brian L. Bunch, 58, of Guntersville.
Shirley, 83, was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 15-year-old passenger in the Chevrolet was also injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The crash occurred on U.S. 231 near the 248 mile marker, approximately four miles south of Oneonta.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division will continue to investigate.
