BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–After more than 30 years on the air, the “Rick & Bubba” radio show will sign off for the last time on Friday.
The duo announced plans to end the show back in February.
“It’s just incredible. You know, we search for the words to say. Gratitude doesn’t feel like enough. Thankful, blessed, we’ve had such a wonderful run. It’s hard to imagine it’s been 31 years when it doesn’t seem like it’s been that long,” Rick Burgess told CBS 42’s David Lamb during an interview ahead of the show’s final broadcast.
The show, hosted by Rick Burgess and Bill ‘Bubba’ Bussey, began in 1994.
Burgess recently announced that starting on Jan. 6, he will debut the “Rick Burgess Show” on WZZK, which currently airs “Rick & Bubba.” The “Rick Burgess Show” will air from 5 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and is expected to run on all current stations and platforms the “Rick & Bubba Show” currently airs. Burgess stated the show will be added to several new markets, though he didn’t specify which ones.
Bussey, who is now assistant athletic director for broadcasting at Jacksonville State University, announced he will host a podcast beginning in 2025 titled “Bubba on the Lake.”
The debut date and episode formats for “Bubba on the Lake” have not been revealed yet.
