IRONDALE, Ala.–The City of Irondale is mourning after one of its officers was hit by a vehicle and killed Monday morning while directing traffic by Church of the Highlands Grants Mill Campus.
The officer killed has been identified as Lt. Mark Meadows, according to an email sent out by Heritage Place Church of Christ where he was a member.
The crash occurred on Grants Mill Road near Overton Road shortly before 7 a.m. as cars were leaving the church’s 21 Days of Prayer event.
According to ALEA, he was hit by a 2010 Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 32-year-old man.
Meadows, 60, was transported to Grandview Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
