BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–The National Weather Service in Birmingham is reporting that even though rain is moving into the area, it is still dangerous to travel on roads.
“Although some improvement in road conditions is expected as temperatures continue to slowly rise, many roads continue to be hazardous, so please avoid unnecessary travel,” the agency wrote.
NWS Birmingham also stated that there will likely be some icy patches on roads overnight tonight.
ALEA has also reported that roadways in Jefferson and St. Clair Counties are still covered with ice and snow.
They have also received widespread reports of stranded motorists due to icy conditions on all lanes of Interstate 20 between Leeds and Pell City.
“The roadway will be blocked and impassible. Please avoid travelling in this area if possible and seek alternate routes,” ALEA stated.
This is a developing story.
