HOMEWOOD, Ala.–More information has been released on the man killed during a scuffle with a police officer in Homewood Monday night.
Jabari Latrell Peoples, 18, of Aliceville has been officially identified as the victim of the shooting, which happened near the Homewood Soccer Park at 9:30 p.m. Monday.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Peoples was shot at approximately 9:30 p.m. and was subsequently taken to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:06 a.m.
The Homewood Police Department confirmed the shooting Monday night, reporting that it started with an officer being called to the park to investigate a suspicious car in the area. An altercation then ensued between Peoples, who was in the car, and the officer.
Peoples allegedly reached for a gun, which is when the unidentified officer shot him, Homewood police report.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
