Troy Ellis Foundation, along with Trussville Parks and Rec, put on baseball skills camp

TRUSSVILLE – On Sunday afternoon, August 24, the Troy Ellis Foundation, along with Trussville Parks and Recreation, put on a skills camp for baseball players of youth age at the Trussville Ball Parks.

The camp was held from 3:00-5:00 pm on August 24, 2025.

The foundation provided the services and paid for the coaches to be able to put on the camp free to the participants.  They put on park and travel ball tournaments during the year, and then give back to the park and this year’s “giving back” was providing the funds for this particular camp so it could be at no cost for the kids and their families.

The event, held at the Trussville ballpark, attracted more than 200 ball players.

Young players, starting as young as six years old, participated in defensive drills and batting cage work, all coached by the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies baseball coaching staff, along with head coach Jeff Mauldin and approximately 40 varsity baseball players.  There were nine assistant coaches in addition to Mauldin, who assisted with the camp.  The camp lasted approximately two hours.

“Coach Mauldin ran the camp and ran great,” said Obed Ellis.  “Special thanks to Lawrence English and Drew Peterson, who is the Director of Trussville Parks and Recreation, also.  They did great.”

The Troy Ellis Foundation was created in memory of Troy Justice Ellis.  Troy was killed in a tragic hunting incident back on May 1^st, 2020.  He would have turned 17 on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

The Troy Ellis Foundation is an organization that will reach out to the youth athletes and outdoorsmen in the surrounding communities to better the facilities, athletic programs, equipment and lessen the cost for the community and/or parents. We want to help give children an outlet to express themselves, learn life lessons, and have fun while exposing them to God’s Great Love.
