Jefferson County Board of Education to consider Shades Valley and Clay-Chalkville projects at Oct. 7 meeting

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala.  — The Jefferson County Board of Education will meet at 10 a.m. on Oct. 7, 2025, in the Central Office Building Board Room to review a full agenda that includes staffing recommendations, policy revisions, facility contracts, and project bids affecting schools across the county — with several key items for Shades Valley High School and Clay-Chalkville High School.

Under Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin’s report, the board will consider the following:

• Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB) delegate selection

• Revised attorney fee schedule

• Renewal of quote for PowerSchool Unified TalentEd

• Memorandum of Understanding with ALSDE for Dr. Dale Stripling

• Job description for Coordinator of School Nursing Services

• Contracted services agreement with the Elam Institute

• International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme application

• Agreement with Directional Ad-Vantage Holdings, LLC

• Revise Policy 4.02.4 Tobacco

• Adopt Policy 4.02.8 Vape Awareness, Education, and Prevention

• Revise Policy 6.01.2 Admission to Schools

• Revise Policy 6.01.4 Absences and Excuses

• Revise Policy 6.17 Student Suspension

• Revise Policy 6.18 Student Expulsion

• Revise Student and Parent Handbook Section 6.02 Excused Absences

Under Finance, CSFO Laura Nance will present recommendations for:

• Bid for brake shoes, drums, and calipers

• Revision to the 2025–2026 salary schedule

Under Teaching and Learning, Director Carita Venable will oversee:

• Charter Agreement with Camelot Charter Tours for Shades Valley High School

• Outdoor Classroom Contract with YMCA Camp Cosby for Hueytown Intermediate School

• Charter Agreement with Landmark Tour & Travel for Snow Rogers Elementary School

• Photography Agreement with Bill Miller Photographers, Inc. for Clay Elementary School

• Yearbook Agreement with Jostens, Inc. for Shades Valley High School

• Yearbook Agreement with Taylor Publishing Company dba Balfour for McCalla Elementary School

The board will also hear reports from the superintendent and secretary before adjournment.

The public meeting will take place at the Jefferson County Board of Education’s Central Office, with discussion expected on infrastructure upgrades at Shades Valley High School, facility partnerships with Clay-Chalkville High School, and policy revisions addressing vaping prevention and student attendance.
